A system of preventing any explosion in the cargo tanks of a tanker by replacing the air by an inert gas. Inert gas is the gas which contains insufficient oxygen to supress combustion of flammable hydrocarbon gases. There may be two products for purging of the cargo system. Inert gas from the exhaust gas boilers and N2 from a nitrogen generator and/or N2-bottles.
